In Silence

Dwane Arboleda

At night, I can hear a tree fall
in a forest I am not even in
And as the moon talks back
to a baying wolf, I can hear
the sound of one hand clapping

Eyes closed, I can see
a thousand children smiling
at the colors of sunset

And in the pauses of my breathing,
right between inhale and exhale,
I can smell the flowers
and feel the ocean breeze
inside an elevator

And sometimes,
sometimes I get glimpses of the future
the sounds, sights, and smells of it.

All these I can do
if you would only, please,
just shut up.
