At Cinema Central
Romel Samson

This movie house takes away my light
as I enter her pitch-black body. My shadow
unrecognizes its form as flickers usher me

to a company of strangers, who, like me,
are children of the shade. My hands grope
in the obscurity of the spaces in between dims

and iridescence. Bumping, patting strangers in the face,
in the arms or somewhere else, in my gaffe to recognize
human from the seat, truth from reality, or the cushioned

grief of the goers in their seat sopping with tears.
The shared lover's malice remains hidden
in the niche. The rituals of the silhouettes

In the shoulder aisles, moving from corner to corner
searching for light, the fulfillment they desire
from someone else's touch while the film plot unfolds,

drowning emotions in a draped world.
Here, sadness is a movie star with sorrow
growing brighter. I watch from afar, with darkness

As my company in this instance of becoming.
As I assume my part in the scene
beyond the curtains.
