| ABOUT PINOYPOETS |
1. What is Pinoypoets?
Pinoypoets is a community of poets and literary enthusiasts, with a particular inclination in poetry in English, Filipino and vernacular languages. It aims to promote, broaden access to, and foster appreciation for contemporary Philippine poetry and literature, through the sharing of works, peer critiquing, poetry reading, as well as other initiatives, both online and offline.

2. How did Pinoypoets start?
Pinoypoets started as an online group in June 2004 with only 50 members. Since then, its membership has increased dramatically as its range of activities has expanded to include offline or realtime initiative activities and poetry sessions.

3. What does "Sharing is Enriching" mean?
Sharing is Enriching is PinoyPoets' tagline and guiding principle. Sharing entails two things, namely, sharing one's poems (and poems written by others), and sharing one's knowledge in poetry. Sharing your poetry and your knowledge and experience is the best way that we may enrich each other's individual growth in the craft, as well as the group's avid appreciation for poetry.

4. What does the PinoyPoets' logo stand for?

The PinoyPoets' logo, is an original design by May Tobias. It is comprised of the group's name patterned in the colors of the Philippine flag to show the group's origin and nationalistic fervor. The image of pen symbolizes the PinoyPoets' interest in writing as a medium of self expression, as well as an art form where its members' inclination and interests brought to the fore. The image of the stars depict the creative output of each member. They symbolize the contributions for the continued development of each member's craft and the diversity of each member's poetry, creative ideas, and points of view. The image also illustrates the fervent desire of PinoyPoets to promote and foster of more works in contemporary Philippine Literature.

5. Is PinoyPoets simply an online poetry group?
While its primary activity of poem sharing and critiquing is done online, PinoyPoets also has activities outside cyberspace. Our offline, or realtime, activities include poetry readings, critique sessions, and regular group meetings, among others. The group plans to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines in the near future to become a full-fledged organization.

6. What are the activities of Pinoypoets?
PinoyPoets has a variety of activities, both online and offline, that continue its thrust of sharing poetry and enriching its members' knowledge and experience in the craft. Online activities and discussions are conducted primarily at the Pinoypoets' Yahoo Groups site (see: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinoypoets). These online activities and discussions include poem sharing, peer critiquing and discussions, online polls, and web promotion, among others. All the poems posted in our egroup are collated twice a month for archiving and shortlisting. The shortlists then become the basis for the selection of the group's Poet and Poems of the Month. Meanwhile, our offline activities include monthly criticism sessions with invited guest poets, regular poetry readings at various venues, a myriad of poetry workshops, contests, and publications of our members' works in the various periodicals and magazines available to us. We also hold general assemblies twice in a month, at every other Friday.

7. Who can join Pinoypoets?
All poets and literary enthusiasts may join Pinoypoets for as long as he/she has Filipino origins, relations and interests in all things Filipino. Individuals who have had no formal training in poetry or are outside the academe are most welcome, as well as those who are already known in any of the Philippine literary circles.

8. Who are the members of Pinoypoets?
Formed in June 2004 with less than 50 members, Pinoy0Poets has grown by leaps and bounds. To date, there are more than 250 members, with three active consultants. Our members come from around the globe and from all walks of life; from students, to teachers, artists, techies, government and private employees, overseas Filipinos, engineers, doctors, blue-collar workers, and more!

| MEMBERSHIP |
1. Do I have to be of Filipino origin to be able to join Pinoypoets?
Not necessarily. Non-Filipino poets and literary enthusiasts who have a special interest in Philippine literature may also join.

2. Can I join Pinoypoets even if I am based outside the Philippines?
Absolutely. Filipinos in the diaspora expatriates are most welcome.

3. May I join even if I simply am a beginner in poetry?
Yes, you may. PinoyPoets does not discriminate against this issue at all. In fact, we all strive to improve and further our individual knowledge and skills in the craft of poetry through the sharing of ideas, peer critiquing and other constructive activities, be they online or offline.

4. How do I become a member of Pinoypoets?
Joining Pinoypoets requires your subscription to our yahoogroup (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinoypoets) or through the group's website (www.pinoypoets.com). Applicants will be requested to fill out a Membership Application Form. The form will be asking you to inclue basic personal information and two sample works. Once completed, please send your form to pinoypoets-owner@yahoogroups.com.

5. Is there a membership fee?
Membership is totally free.

6. What are the responsibilities of a PinoyPoets member?
Pinoypoets members are expected to participate in the group 's online and offline activities. For those outside Manila or the Philippines , visibility and participation in online discussions, critiquing, shortlisting and other activities in the yahoogroups will suffice. Inactive members or lurkers will be booted out.

7. What are the benefits of becoming a PinoyPoets member?
PinoyPoets is a good venue for any aspiring poet to improve his/her craft at the comfort of his/her home, at the workplace, or at any place of his/her convenience. He/she will greatly benefit from the diverse feedback, insight and experience that the other members may share about poetry and writing.
Active PinoyPoets members will get the chance to have their poems included in various Pinoypoets publications (chapbook, book, poetry cd, etc.). They will also have the opportunity to participate in the group's poetry gigs, workshops, crit sessions with guest poets, and other poetry-related events.
And of course, you do get to enjoy the company of kindred spirits.
