ABOUT PINOYPOETS

PinoyPoets is a community of literary enthusiasts whose aim is to create an online forum where its members may enrich their knowledge, experience and creativity in poetry. It serves as a meeting place where the members may interact and learn from each other; where ideas may be exchanged freely and opinions shared constructively and respectfully.

PinoyPoets has grown to more than 250 members, with three consultants, to date, since its humble beginnings in June 2004. It does not support any particular political leaning, ideology or advocacy.

PinoyPoets' regular online activities include:

- Posting of Works. All poems posted are open for constructive criticism from fellow members.

- Season's Favorite Poems. Each member may gather their favorites from the posted poems and submit their lists twice every month (one from the batch of poems from the first half of the month and the other from latter half). The most favored poems will be included in the Season's Favorite Poems.

- Featured Pinoypoet of the Month. A member will be featured for the season. The selected poet will choose the poem among his/her works for posting together with his/her brief profile in the site.

- Writing Exercises. These activities encourage members to write poems based on a given criteria with a deadline of one to two weeks.

- Forum (http://PinoyPoets.proboards44.com). This is still a work in progress and is intended for more orderly and facilitated discussions on poetics, criticisms and announcements.

- Website (http://www.PinoyPoets.com). Also a work in progress. The website will be allocated mainly for backup archiving of poems posted by PinoyPoets members.

Among Pinoypoets offline activities are:

- General Assemblies. At least twice a month, members based in Metro Manila and nearby cities and towns will meet to plan the group's activities, discuss PinoyPoets-related issues, and socialize with fellow members.

- Crit Sessions. Similar to a mini-workshop, a crit session is a whole-day activity where poems are critiqued extensively by an established poet.

- Socialization with Established Poets. Recognized poets are invited to PinoyPoets General Assemblies. Among those whom the group became acquainted with, to date, are Ramil Gulle, Angelo Suarez, Sid Gomez Hildawa and Noel Romero del Prado.

PinoyPoets' consultants include:

Edgar Samar.
